Recently I posted about the DS. Made in reasonably large numbers and a fair few left. So you can pick one up cheaply? Er, no, unless you want a money pit. A late DS 23 with injection could set you back £40,000 in the UK. Even in France where they’re more common €25,000 plus. Want one of the Chapron convertibles? Multiply the French price by ten.
You can now pay as much for a decent DS as for the far more exotic SM.
Have a decent DS.

Yeah but what about the ID19?

Yes, worth much less. Supply, demand and all that. Everybody wants a 1974 or so DS23 Pallas IE 5 speed.

From a home mechanic perspective the ID is much more attractive, besides 99% of people outside the car will never know the difference.

Yes, much less complicated hydraulicry - but there’s still the suspension.
Won’t the single lights be a give away though? They make the car look quite different.

A 69 is really the 4 door I want, I have a W123 and I like it but I dream of a DS with covered headlights and the pre 1970 dash. There is a French car club in SF and two mechanics in the bay area capable of working on them and upgrading the hydropneumatic suspension. But a nice one is too much.... sigh

Cumberbatch drove one in Tinker Tailor - an outstanding movie.
